Mexico’s Real Resorts, which has all-inclusive
properties in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, is now offering guests a
“soft voluntourism” program. In conjunction with City of Joy, a
non-profit social services organization that Real has supported for
many years, tourists can spend one day of their vacation visiting
the City of Joy and helping in small ways. Founded in 2000, the City
of Joy Foundation supports individuals and families who live in
Cancun and the state of Quintana Roo and often work in the
hospitality industry, but find themselves coming up short in
supporting their families’ needs.
The five-hectare compound located just outside Cancun provides
education, health care, legal support
and other services for needy families in collaboration with
charitable organizations, working to keep families together and
provide resources for a dignified life. Together, the organizations
in the City of Joy help more than 20,000 people a year and the
foundation provides more than US$450,000 per year to these
non-profit organizations to sustain homes, pay utilities, and
provide services.
All four Real resorts are beachfront and offer a selection of guest
suites and facilities, including large ocean-front suites, spa-style
bathrooms, the eco-holistic services of SPAzul, gourmet dining,
meeting facilities, wedding locations and Real Resorts’ exclusive
Royal Check-In, which allows guests to choose their individual
suite, online, prior to arrival. (http://www.realresorts.com)
