Our Travel Review of the Caribbean Princess

Airport Hotel:

Without a doubt this cruise was our favourite vacation!  Staying at the Sheraton at Pearson in Toronto was a great idea.  It’s a nice hotel, they have everything you need right there, no need to leave for anything.  We parked the car there for the week, didn’t have to even go outside to get to our terminal.  We’d stay there again for sure.

Flight:

The flight to Puerto Rico went smoothly.  We were glad we opted for the Elite service.  It was nice to have some extra leg room on a longer flight like this one was.  We’ve never flown with Sunwing before but would do so again.  We were impressed with their service, on the way and on the return flight.

Organized and Friendly:

Things seemed to be very organized from the airport right until we got on the ship, no unnecessary waiting, which was impressive really, considering how many people were on this cruise.  We found all of the staff on board very friendly and eager to help, from the waiting staff to the bartenders, to the housekeeping staff.  The cabin was small compared to a hotel room (that's fine, we knew it would be) but it was clean and nicely furnished.  We were really glad we got a cabin with a balcony.  It was a nice way to wake up in the morning sitting out there with our coffee, and also a nice way to end the evening, having a drink out there before bed.

Restaurants and Food:

The restaurants on this ship were amazing, the food was wonderful, and there was so much of it!  Even the food in the buffet restaurants was good, the places very clean, and it was nice to be able to dress casually for an evening or two and go to the buffet.  I can’t really say much about the evening clubs.  We sat in a bar for a couple of drinks in the evenings, but never tried out any of the clubs.

Outdoor Movie Theatre:

The “Movies Under the Stars” was fabulous...what a great idea!!  They put plush covers on the loungers out on the decks by the movie screen and they serve popcorn.  We really enjoyed that.  And during the day, they played child oriented movies like “Up” for the kids.  It was funny to walk by that pool and see it full of kids not swimming, but hanging onto the side so they could watch the movie.

Ports of Call:

We enjoyed each place the ship docked.  We signed up for an outing in most of the places and found each one to be a good value.   The tour guides were friendly and didn’t mind questions.

St. Thomas:

In St. Thomas, we did the shopping and beach excursion.  For those who love jewellery, St. Thomas was an amazing place.  Downtown, there were jewellery stores as far the eye could see, and the quality and the prices of the goods were awesome.  We were told which stores could be trusted, but to be careful of others.  The beach we were taken to was beautiful.  White sand, clear clear water, and 2 hours was lots of time.

Dominica:

Second stop was Dominica.  We went on the dolphin and whale watching catamaran excursion and had a nice time.  It was exciting to see both the dolphins and the whales.  The whales we saw were a mother and calf so she didn’t want us to get too close, but we did see them dive down and saw their tails.  The dolphins came right up to the boat and were jumping out of the water along side of us.

Grenada:

Third day was Grenada and since it was a shorter day, we opted to do our own thing rather than an excursion.  There was a little mall of souvenir shops within walking distance to where the ship docked so it worked out perfectly.

Bonaire:

Fourth day we were in Bonaire.  What a beautiful place!  I think this was our favourite port.  It’s not very “commercial” compared to some of the other places we stopped at.  We went on a boat to an uninhabited island where we could swim or sunbathe, and we also rented snorkelling gear.  It was amazing, the water was so clear and the fish came right up to us.  The beach was beautiful here too, white sand just like St. Thomas.

Aruba:

Aruba was our last port of call and we enjoyed our snorkelling trip immensely.  We took another catamaran ride and snorkelled at two different spots, one of them being a shallow coral area, and the second to a shipwreck.  There were a lot of shopping places in Aruba but since we were there on Good Friday, unfortunately most of the shops were closed.

Day at Sea:

Our last day was at sea and it was a nice change, to be out on the open water during the day.  This was by far our best vacation and we will cruise again for sure.

Thanks so much for all of your help, Michele.  We really had a great time!

Talk soon, Tanya
