In January
2008, we took a trip as a family of 10. This hotel is located quite a ways
from the airport. You can choose a 5 ½ hour ferry/bus or a 20 min small
airplane to transfer. We chose the ferry ride both ways so that we could
enjoy the scenery…I would not recommend this. We ended up spending two days
out of seven getting to and from the hotel.
The resort is
gorgeous! They’ve put a lot of time and effort into keeping an elegant,
clean atmosphere. And they have a natural park on their property that was
full of monkeys - they were so cute!!! The beach offered a lot of different
activites, but the sand is rough dark sand that you couldn’t walk along
without shoes. I’ve mastered boogie boarding and the small waves were
perfect for it.
We took two day
trips, but instead of using the resort, we booked our trips with a company
we found walking along the beach. They were so convenient. They picked us up
right on the beach front with their boats and brought us to waterfalls, zip
lines, and a national park. Everything about them was professional and
impressive and we booked our trips for half the price the resort was asking.
This area is a
very Spanish speaking area, so all of the evening entertainment was in
Spanish. And the disco played majority Spanish music and everyone there
seemed to know how to professionally dance, but it was still a great time.
And the resort is pretty secluded. There is a small town nearby but not a
lot of sightseeing. If you are interested in the rainforest, this is NOT the
resort for you. They are closer to the airport (5 ½ hours away).
The food was
amazing no matter where you ate at the hotel. There are breaks in the day
where both the snack bar and restaurant are closed, but I’m sure it’s
because nobody could possibly eat anymore! The swim up bar was so convenient
but after two sunburns, I suggest lots of reapplying of the sun block!
I would recommend
this resort to all ages, but I would also recommend the plane transfer –
stay away from that ferry!!!
