TRAVEL REVIEW - RIU VARADERO, VARADERO, CUBA

Mary: 25 years old

London, ontario

Group vacation: male & female ages 25-30

RIU Varadero  Varadero, Cuba

September 24th - October 1st 2011

I would like to start off by saying that I had a wonderful vacation in Varadero and would definitely vacation there again!  I went on this vacation with my boyfriend and 4 other friends! Three of us had been to Cuba before and the other three, this was their first time.  For my one friend and her boyfriend this was their first All-Inclusive vacation and they loved it!

Going to Cuba, you have to keep in mind that their food is not the same quality as we are used to.  I found all the buffet food was good.  There were a lot of choices, especially at dinner time. They had a pasta station where the chef would cook and make pasta just how you would like it.  They also had a station for fish and chicken and beef!  You are able to pick two A La Carte for a week stay.  We did the Creole and Italian one. They were both Delicious and I highly recommend both of them.  They let you look at the menu so you can make sure there is something you will like :)

The Resort itsself was awesome!  The pools were amazing, lots of space to roam around.  Lots of areas to sit around the pool.  I love having a swim up bar, so that was great!  The bartenders are great, very friendly and great service.  The rooms were great.  Our room was on the 3rd floor and overlooked the pool, so that was wonderful. Our maid was very nice and friendly, and did speak a little English.  She wrote us a welcome note and said she hopes we have a great vacation.  The beach was also really nice!!  My boyfriend went water skiing!  They let me go in the boat and take pictures of him.  I thought that that was very nice of them!

We went and saw a few shows.  I caught some of the one on the first night, it was actually a water show in the pool!  It was pretty good!  The other two I saw were the King which was like the lion king play and the other was a tribute to Michael Jackson.  They were both good!

The lobby Bar is the place to go after dinner because it is the only bar that is open after 6, other than the one at the theatre, and disco later on.  The bartenders at the lobby made great drinks! They even garnished my daiquiris and pina coladas!!  I only went to the Disco a few nights, but they served good drinks as well and the music was really good!!

We did two excursions and they were both fantastic!!  The first we did was 32 CUC it was half a day.  We went snorkelling and went to the caves!  The second was a catamaran excursion all day.  It was 101 CUC and included drinks on the catamaran, snorkelling, interaction with dolphins, lunch on an island where you can go swimming and hangout and more food on the catamaran!  I paid an extra 10 CUC and got to hang on the the Dolphins fins and she took me around!! Well worth it, it was amazing! And a photographer will take your picture with the Dolphins and deliver it to your hotel the same day for 10 CUC (also well worth it, my friends and I all did that!)

I had an amazing vacation with my boyfriend and my friends!  I will definitely go back!!  I would recommend this resort to anyone groups of friends, couples, family's. They seemed to have something for everyone.  My mom and dad have been going to Varadero every year for the past 4 years now and they love it, so I have definitely recommended it to them!    :)
