Planet Hollywood
Towers was a perfect spot to stay for a group of good friends. Five long-time
female
friends went for a
Vegas getaway for our 40th birthdays and we had two large hotel rooms, adjoined
by a lounge and kitchenette with an additional double hide-a-bed that was
reasonably comfortable, but
lacked appropriate
bedding. Each bedroom had a plush, king size bed and the area throughout the 3
rooms was spacious
and nicely Feng Shui, with a simple red, black and white theme. Very Vegas.
The lounge had
beautiful leather furniture and a huge window view. There were flat screen TVs
in
every room, not that
we made much time for using them! Opposite the seating area (see pictures with
red couches,) was a
dining table and a kitchenette. The kitchenette had stainless steel appliances
(microwave, fridge
with ice maker, dishwasher and stove top) and it was a great idea. When it came
time to use the
kitchenette, though, there were some shortcomings. For instance, there were no
pots or pans to use on the stove top, rendering it “just for show.” Also, the
dishwasher – a great idea – leaked water all over the counter top while it was
running and we were out. The fridge and microwave were functional and came in
handy, as did the plates, bowls and glasses that were in the cupboards.
One of the bedrooms
had a jacuzzi hot tub which was eventually lovely, but it took 5 educated women,
a useless call to the
main desk and about half an hour to figure out how the jet streams worked.
Similarly, the
showers looked pretty. One had a really wide spout for its shower, but the water
pressure
was so poor that it
was hard to get the conditioner out of our hair. The less funky shower in the
other
room had slightly
better water pressure so it became the preferred one for washing hair, even
though
the poorly
functioning one was a cool, walk-in shower which was definitely the most
inviting.
The best parts of the
hotel were:
• The Look:
modern, funky and fun decor in the lobby and the rooms! (5 stars);
• The Space:
furniture was luxurious and ample but it still left plenty of room so we didn't
feel
at all cramped (5
stars);
• Location,
Location, Location: we were pretty central on the strip, the casino
underneath was
fun, there were loads
of great restaurants nearby or just below us, the Miracle Mile shopping
was so fun and –
again – funky! We loved the painted on sky and the ever-twilight lighting as
we checked out the
shopping and the hotels and casinos along the way (5 stars);
• The Dining Area:
a great place for sharing our leftovers, some wine and conversation (3 ˝
stars due to roomy
surface, comfy stools but inadequate dishware and slightly sticky place
mats.)
The parts we'd like
to see improved were:
• The Housekeeping:
One day they didn't even come to clean, make beds or anything. For such
a nice hotel, this
really surprised us. We had the correct door hanger (“Please make up room” or
whatever it was) on
both doors, so it was nothing we did. We were tidy guests so it wasn't the
end of the world;
more of a mild disappointment (3 stars)
• The Maintenance:
While everything looked cool, there were plenty of things not up-kept. I
mentioned the
dishwasher and the user-unfriendly hot tub. I did not mention that many of the
light bulbs were
burned out, including many over the lovely hot tub. I also mentioned the poor
water pressure for
the wonderful-looking shower. Again, given all the money that must have
gone into decorating
the hotel, not maintaining it seemed bizarre and short-sighted on the part
of the management. (2
